Should Dubai businesses automate their WhatsApp replies? (2026 guide)
For most Dubai businesses that get regular enquiries, yes: automate the instant first reply, the common questions and the qualifying questions, and keep a real person for the conversation that closes the sale. Here is what to automate, what to keep human, what it costs, and the mistakes to avoid.
Why reply speed matters so much
People in the UAE contact several businesses at once on WhatsApp, and the first useful reply usually wins. A well-known study in the Harvard Business Review found that companies that responded to an enquiry within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify the lead as those that waited longer. Most enquiries also arrive in the evenings and at weekends, exactly when nobody is free to answer. We cover the research in more detail in why the first business to reply wins the customer.
What to automate, and what to keep human
| Automate | Keep a person |
|---|---|
| The instant first reply, day or night | Complex or unusual questions |
| Prices, opening hours, location and FAQs | Negotiation and custom quotes |
| Qualifying questions: budget, timing, what they need | Complaints and sensitive situations |
| Booking calls, viewings and appointments | Closing the sale and building the relationship |
| Reminders and follow-ups | Anything the customer asks a human for |
The goal is simple: by the time you or your team step in, you already know who the customer is, what they want and whether they are ready.
Your options, from free to fully automated
- WhatsApp Business app (free): greeting messages, away messages and quick replies. A good start for a one-person business, but it cannot answer questions intelligently or qualify leads.
- WhatsApp Business Platform with an AI assistant: answers questions in natural language, asks qualifying questions, books appointments, connects to your website forms and hands over to a person when needed. This is what most growing businesses need.
What it costs
Since July 2025, Meta has charged per message on the WhatsApp Business Platform. The important part for most businesses: when a customer messages you, a 24-hour window opens, and your replies in that window, including automated ones, are free. You mainly pay for messages you start yourself, such as marketing broadcasts or reminders sent outside that window.
On top of that comes the set-up: writing the conversation flows, training the assistant on your services and prices, and connecting it to your calendar or forms. At frontage., AI automation set-up starts from AED 3,000. To see what slow replies may be costing you now, try our slow-replies calculator.
The mistakes to avoid
- Pretending to be human. Say clearly that it is an automated assistant. Customers accept it when it is fast and helpful.
- No way out. Always let customers reach a person, and make sure someone actually picks up.
- Wrong or outdated answers. Keep prices, availability and policies up to date, and limit the assistant to what it knows.
- Spamming. Only message people who contacted you or agreed to hear from you. Meta can limit numbers that send unwanted messages.
- Automating everything. The sale still happens between people. Automation should get you to that conversation faster, not replace it.
Is it right for your business?
It usually pays off if you get more than a handful of WhatsApp enquiries a week, often reply late in the evening or the next day, or answer the same questions again and again. It matters most for clinics, salons, real estate, education, car rental, restaurants, gyms and any business that runs ads, where every slow reply wastes ad spend.
